Fred Hutchinson Cancer Care Clinic Expansion

For the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Care Clinic expansion, Allison & Ross provided full service for every aspect of sourcing art in this new-construction project, beginning with consulting and ending with installation. Our team handled the big picture, the details, and everything in between for this complex, time-sensitive job, working with a wide variety of collaborators in a responsive, timely, and professional manner.

We offered the FHCC art committee numerous options for art appropriate to the healthcare setting, focused on nature, in five distinct themes, one for each floor: sky, water, land, trees, and mountains. With the art proposals, it was important to honor Indigenous tribes, support Northwest artists, celebrate the beauty of our environment, and provide art that engages, calms, and offers respite for patients, visitors, and staff.

After the art selections were made, our project managers handled purchase arrangements from several galleries, as well as scheduling transport of art that required mounting and/or framing at the shop. Our expert woodshop and fitting staff made secure mounts for several 3D works, encasing them in display frames with Plexiglas to best conserve and protect them in the healthcare environment. For newly framed works, basic light wood frames were chosen to provide continuity across the range of art in the clinic, echoing the clean lines of its architecture and design.

With dozens of artworks to keep track of and schedule for transport and installation, our project managers worked with FHCC facilities staff on site in concert with our art technicians to make sure each piece arrived at the right place at the right time during phased periods of installation.
